The Pursuit Of Happyness

Directed By: Gabriele Muccino
Year: 2006
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Biography/Drama
Runtime: 117 minutes

Will Smith shines in this biography of Chris Gardner, a man who went from the very bottom and worked his way up to build a life for him and his son.

The film is about a father whose struggling to sell hospital equipment to help make a living. After his wife leaves him with his son and many bills to pay Chris Gardner, played by Will Smith decides to take a chance and try to earn an internship as a stock broker.

The film is a great adaptation of the struggle to pay bills and fighting your way to do what has to be done. This is a great film for anybody from their teens on up. Will Smith does a fantastic job pertraying Gardner(whom makes a camio appearance at the end of the film). The character really gets into your heart and can really be felt for.

There are some very moving moments throughout the film really depicting Gardner’s struggles. At one point he is left only to sleep in a men’s bathroom holding the door closed with his foot while his son sleeps.

It’s a very moving film done with very minimum slow points. It is most definitely one of the best movies to be released in 2006

Reno 911!: Miami

Directed By: Ben Garant
Genre: Action/Comedy
Year: 2007
Rated: R

Comedy Central’s hit series takes on the big screen, does it lay down the law or does it go straight to jail?

The film is directed by Ben Garant whom himself played a roll in the film as Deputy Travis Junior. It also stars all of the same cast from the television series; Mary Birdsong, Kerri Kenney, Thoman Lennon, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Niecy Nash and Cedric Yarbrough. A lot of people are kind of skeptical about television series that end up in the theaters because it seems like an opportunity to cash in on the television series success. Reno 911 had the feel of possibly going that same route, luckily it came out swinging.

The film follows the same trend of the television show as a mock “Cops” documentary style. The police officers of Reno are followed around by cameras on their everyday duty. They find themselves invited to a police officer expo in Miami so they head right there. Shortly after a nuclear scare traps all officers in the Miami area in lock-down leaving only the Reno Department to patrol the streets of Miami.

The movie does a great job of telling the main story while still giving the fans side missions within the movie. Different calls that the cast has to answer to such as a dead whale on a beach that they have to move and a man with a alligator in his pool.

The film is full of laughs from start to finish. It is a solid film though the story is kind of cheesy it is hardly noticeable with all the jokes.

Definitely a film to checkout.

Green Street Hooligans

You may never call it soccer again.

Green Street Hooligans starsElijah Wood and Charlie Hunnam and they do an amazing job at bringing a realistic feel to a film about brotherhood, reputation and brawling within the world of European football.

The film takes place with Elijah Wood being framed for possession of cocaine in his dorm room and is kicked out of college. He moves to London where his sister lives. He meets Hunnam’s character and the action is pretty much nonstop from there. He gets involved in the violent lifestyle of football hooligans or as they call themselves, a firm.

Wood’s character comes to learn that though the life is violent there’s more to it then just beating up rival gang members. It’s about loyalty and sticking up for your brothers.

This movie really does not have many dull moments and those that exist in the film are not boring more of just to help better explain details in the story. There was not much hype around this movie when it was released in theaters but don’t let that full anybody. This movie is a solid title that delivers on all aspects. It has a raw perception in terms of filming, the story shows compassion through the violence. It is definitely one of the top movies released in the last few years.

Verdict: This movie is most definitely a buy, it can be watched over and over again and will be a nice addition to anybody’s DVD collection.

Transformers: The Movie(1986)

Transformers: The Movie
80’s Metal was created to fill this movie beginning to end.

With the much anticipated live action Transformers movie due out very soon it is only right to get the juices flowing with a review of the classic 1986 animated feature, Transformers: The Movie.

First and foremost. This movie is nonstop adrenaline from the minute the movie kicks off. In parts that could start to slow down they are rapidly picked back up again by not only action sequences but shredding guitar riffs and high pitched 80’s hair metal singers. The movie takes place after the cartoon that also aired in the 80’s. It finds all the characters you love smashed right into the early scenes.

The movie has it’s cheesy moments but it’s from the 80’s so what do you expect. The story isn’t too bad but it’s pretty typical. Good versus Bad.

Every action scene is sprawled out with great animation and effects. The animation may seem a little raw but that’s what makes some of the scenes so great. There is not only a since of nostalgia but also a sense of excitement, again driven by the amazing music.

For anyone stoked to see the new Transformers movie this may hold you over. It follows the story of the cartoon very well and represent the Transformers name very well. Any fan should probably have this one but if not go check it out. It is loaded with special features and though it may not eliminate the months still ahead till the movie comes out. It will get you ready for the live action chaos that will ensue.

TMNT Review

The generation that loved the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have all grown up so will the franchise still bring in the same fans of old as well as new?

There was a lot of skepticism about this movie early on with it being all in CGI compared to live action like the previous three movies of the early 90’s. TMNT definitely delivers the good for what it’s worth. Directed by Kevin Munroe It’s not going to be the greatest movie in the world nor even considered a great movie by many but for those of you who enjoyed the series will get that feeling of excitement of seeing the 4 heroes in a half shell take on their next adventure.

The movie is packed with great action scenes including one with Raphael and Leonardo in the rain, easily one of the coolest sequences in all the film. The story is kind of bland and nothing really original but what can you expect out of an animated movie about 4 turtles.

Something that really struck me was the high profile names that are on the soundtrack and found in songs throughout the movie. You have bands such as Gym Class Heroes, Cute Is What We Aim For, P.O.D. and Cobra Starship. If you didn’t like the movie you will at least enjoy the soundtrack. Filled with rock and some hip hop really gives it a strong presence for the movie and has a energetic youth feel.

If you were a fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles then you owe yourself at least to see the movie one time. It will take you back and seeing the 4 of the turtles battling it out against evil villains still rules and the soundtrack matches the action kick for kick. Turtle Power.
